2014 Easton Softball Bats: Raw Power – Balance vs End Load

It’s that time of year: New 2014 Easton Softball Bats

In early 2014 Easton will release a batch of new Balanced and End Loaded bats in both USSSA, ASA, Senior Softball, and one new bat with both an ASA and USSSA stamp.

2014 Brett Helmer Softball Bat L1.0

2014 Brett Helmer Softball Bat L1.0

There are so many models. What is the difference between them?

  • Two different types of composite in the handle: SIC Black Carbon is used is the handle of the more expensive models, while IMX composite is used in the handles of the slightly less expensive versions.
  • IMX composite is used in the barrel on ALL of the composite barreled slowpitch bats
  • Balanced vs End Load: Easily determine whether the bat you are looking at has an evenly balanced swing weight if the model number starts with a “B”, end loaded model numbers begin with an “L”.
  • ASA versus USSSA: 2014 Easton Slow Pitch bats approved for ASA are Black and Green, while USSSA approved bats are Black and Red. The Blue and Black bat is approved for both USSSA and ASA.

Balanced 2014 Easton Slow Pitch Bat Models

  • B1.0 – Balanced, Two-Piece, SIC Composite Handle, USSSA Approved
  • B2.0 – Balanced, One-Piece, SIC Composite Handle, USSSA Approved
  • B3.0 – Balanced, Two-Piece, SIC Composite Handle, ASA Approved
  • B4.0 – Balanced, One-Piece, SIC Composite Handle, ASA Appoved
  • BSR – Balanced, One-Piece, IMX Composite Handle, Senior Softball Approved

End Loaded 2014 Easton Slow Pitch Bat Models

  • L1.0 – End Load, Two-Piece, SIC Composite Handle, USSSA Approved
  • L2.0 – End Load, One-Piece, SIC Composite Handle, USSSA Approved (Brian Wegman Signature Model)
  • L3.0 - End Load, Two-Piece, SIC Composite Handle, ASA Approved
  • L4.0 - End Load, One-Piece, SIC Composite Handle, ASA Approved (Brett Helmer Signature Model)
  • L5.0 – End Load, One-Piece, IMX Composite Handle, USSSA Approved
  • L6.0 – End Load, One-Piece, IMX Composite Handle, ASA Approved
  • LX.0 – End Load, One-Piece, IMX Composite Handle, ASA and USSSA Approved

In reality, there is not a whole lot of difference between the 2014 Easton Slowpitch softball bat models. Just ask yourself if you need a balanced bat to help you swing through the hitting zone quicker, or are you a power hitter that can swing the bat quickly? You should look into a more end-loaded bat to help hit the ball farther, due to more mass towards the end of the bat.

The two most exciting bats, I think, are the “Cross Stamp” ASA and USSSA approved LX.0 and the Senior Softball Bat (which is the first 1.21 BPF bat Easton has ever produced). The LX.0 will let you buy one bat and be able to use it at almost any softball field, no matter what sanctioning body is running the games that day.

The Easton Hammer softball bat is a single piece model that was constructed with aluminum alloy and comes with a thin handle, making it easier to hold for smaller players. Softball Bat Review: Easton Raw Power B2.0 Slow Pitch Softball Bat

Easton Raw Power B2.0 Slow Pitch Softball Bat

Easton Raw Power B2.0 Slow Pitch Softball Bat

Easton has brought out yet another series in their slow pitch softball bat line up. The Easton Raw Power bats comes in a variety of sizes, weights, and colors. Today, I will be focusing on the Easton Raw Power B2.0 Slow Pitch Softball Bat.

The new Easton Raw Power B2.0 for 2013 has the Easton exclusive, SIC black carbon fiber handle to help reduce vibration, as well as improve the overall feel of the bat in your hands. The SIC carbon fiber composite in the handle means you feel the least amount of vibration, while maintaining maximum stiffness throughout all of the bat, not allowing for any energy loss during a swing.

I hit a few softballs off the end of the bat, then I tried to hit some too close to the hands, to feel how well the SIC technology worked. The one piece Raw Power B2 did indeed have some vibration on those bad swings, but what distracted me from that sensation was how well I had hit the softball with those intentionally bad swings. In fact, I almost noticed nothing else.

From my first swing with the Easton Raw Power B2.0, I was a fan. Everything I was hitting was hard, and it reminded me more of a shaved bat because of how well the ball jumped off the B2.0 no matter where I hit the ball on the barrel.

Easton really put in some quality engineering into the design of the B2.0 Raw Power, from the 13.5 inch barrel, to the new gauze grip tape. The Easton Raw Power bats have a B or a L in their model numbers to let you know the bat is either Balanced or End Loaded in weight distribution.

The Easton Raw Power B 2.0 Slow Pitch Softball Bat is definitely very balanced, and felt great to swing through the zone. Plenty of control on a bat that I would describe as nothing less than a pleasure to swing.

A great slow pitch softball bat for the money and you can find it at a great price at

Softball Bat Review: Easton L4.0 Raw Power Slow Pitch Softball Bat

easton-L4.0 Raw-Power-softball-bat

Easton L4.0 Raw Power Slow Pitch Softball Bat

The new Easton L4.0 Raw Power slow pitch softball bats are the latest bats to come out of the Easton Hit Lab in Van Nuys, California. The Raw Power slow pitch series comes in balanced and end load, Amateur Softball Association of America (ASA) and USSSA 1.20.

One of the most anticipated new bats is the end-loaded, single piece, Brett Helmer signature Easton L4.0 Raw Power Slow Pitch Softball bat. This new bat is a one piece, 100% composite bat with a 12-inch barrel and an 1 ounce end load, approved for ISF and the new, hotter, ASA Softball Bat standard.

Easton uses their exclusive, top of the line SIC Black Carbon composite fiber material in the handle of the L4.0 Raw Power Softball Bat.  This material gives it a smooth, nearly vibration-free feel on contact. Easton’s IMX composite is used in the barrel.

The difference between the Easton L4.0 and the L6.0 is the Easton L4.0 Raw PowerSlow Pitch Softball Bat uses the newer SIC Black Carbon in the handle for a “better feel.”  The L6.0 uses the older IMX composite.

When I first picked up the Easton L4.0, the first thing I noticed was the new grip tape being used on all of the Easton Raw Power softball bats. The gauze grip tape is thin, similar to athletic tape and offers no cushion at all.  You won’t need to regrip this bat with athletic tape.

  • Feel: All Easton slow pitch softball bats have a smooth feel, and the Easton L4.0 Brett Helmer signature model is no exception. There is no excessive vibration in the bat, even when I missed the sweet spot and hit the ball down closer to the taper. The Easton L4.0 is smooth and forgiving thanks to the Black Carbon in the handle. The weight distribution is nice for an end-load, and does not feel too end heavy.
  • Stiffness: The Easton L4.0 Raw PowerSlow Pitch Softball Bat is as stiff as they come
  • Sweet Spot and Pop: The 12-inch barrel is more forgiving than other softball bats, and the pop is as great.  The  Easton L4.0 Raw PowerSlow Pitch Softball Bat is on par with legendary Easton softball bats of the past

For the feel of an end-loaded softball bat, and the stiffness of a one piece bat, the Brett Helmer signature Easton L4.0 Raw Power Bat is an excellent choice.

Cheapbats offers the outstanding Easton L4.0 Raw Power Slow Pitch Softball Bat at a great price.
