8 Best Selling 2019 BBCOR Bats – What People Are Buying So Far

Below are the 8 best selling BBCOR bats of the year so far. This goes back to August/September 2018 when the 2019 BBCOR bats were released.

2019 Best BBCOR Bats

2019 Louisville Slugger Meta Prime BBCOR Bat – A super expensive, stiff feeling bat with a very balanced swing weight and a large barrel.

Marucci Cat 8 Composite Connect Baseball Bats

Marucci Cat 8 BBCOR – A one piece, all aluminum bat for high school and college at an excellent price. The Cat 8 BBCOR is no slouch, and competes head to head with bats twice its price. Easy to swing and crushes the ball.

2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 – Still super expensive, but $50 less than the Meta Prime and has only very slight differences. The Prime has an ever so slightly greater end load, does not feel as stiff on contact, is not as loud, and a microscopically smaller barrel profile.

2019 DeMarini Voodoo Balanced BBCOR Bat – Two piece design for comfort and sting elimination. Middle of the road price point. Balanced for easy swinging. Composite handle and aluminum barrel for excellent performance and durability.

Marucci Cat 8 Connect Baseball Bat

Marucci Cat 8 Connect BBCOR Bat – The Cat 8 Connect is a two piece bat with a composite handle stuck to a high end aluminum alloy barrel. End loaded for added power. Essentially it is a power hitter’s version of the popular Cat 8.

2019 DeMarini CF Zen BBCOR – Balanced version of DeMarini’s highest end composite, two piece bat.

Marucci Cat 7 BBCOR Bat – While technically this bat came out before all of the others on this list, it is still in Marucci’s potent BBCOR lineup. With a one piece design and thickness tuned barrel, the Cat 7 is still an extremely popular bat.

2019 Louisville Slugger Omaha 519 BBCOR Bat –  Another one piece bat made entirely from aluminum alloy, the 2019 BBCOR Omaha sits at $199 and provides the hitter with consistent and reliable performance.

2019 Louisville Slugger Prime 919 BBCOR Baseball Bat

The Louisville Slugger Prime BBCOR has always been an excellent bat, and the 2019 Prime BBCOR is no different.

2019 Louisville Slugger Prime BBCOR Baseball Bat

We hit the new Prime BBCOR Bat, as well as the new Meta Prime BBCOR. There is no better way to determine the performance of a bat than to hit it side by side with another.

Swing Weight and Feel When Hitting

The Prime BBCOR has a balanced swing weight, making the bat very comfortable and easy to swing. Louisville Slugger designed the weight distribution to be perfect for what most high school and college age players want. The two piece design of the 2019 Prime BBCOR does its job by not allowing any sting or vibration in the hands.

Power and Pop

Unreal pop and performance is what you get with the 2019 Prime BBCOR. And for $449 it better be great. The 2019 Prime and Meta Prime both hit the baseball, on average, 4 miles per hour faster than other high end BBCOR bats in our exit velocity tests, though, you should NEVER buy a bat based off exit speeds alone. Heavier and end loaded bats will put off higher exit speeds due to the increased mass, and end loaded/heavy bats are not a good fit for a vast majority of high school aged players due to slower bat speed. The good part is the Prime has excellent exit speeds along with a balanced swing weight.

Design and Features

VCX Vibration Control Technology is the name of the tech used to make a separate handle and barrel become one bat. This piece gives the bat whip, as well as kills vibration

Microform Composite is a fancy way of saying only the most high end carbon fiber material is used in the Prime and Meta Prime BBCOR bats. Not much detail is given beyond the fact there is no junk filler in the carbon fiber.

Lizard Skin grip has been changed out for a Louisville Slugger branded grip that is actually very good and “grippy”.

Prime vs Meta Prime

Both are excellent bats. One is NOT better than the other. The Meta Prime is louder, has a stiffer feel on contact with the ball (no vibration), and an ever so slightly larger barrel that extends down towards your hands where you should not be hitting the ball anyway.

-5 BBCOR and -3 USA Bats?

Minus 5 BBCOR AND Minus 3 USA BATS

-5 BBCOR and -3 USA Bats do not exist

Looking for a “drop 5 BBCOR”? or a “minus 3 ounce USA Bat”?

We occasionally have customers ask us for these bats, but they do not exist.

A BBCOR bat is required to be no lighter than a minus 3 ounce length to weight ratio. So a -5 ounce BBCOR bat would be against the rules, and therefore not a BBCOR bat.

The heaviest USA bats are a minus 5 ounce length to weight ratio.

What is length to weight ratio?

Take the length of the bat in inches (we’ll say 30 inches, for example), then subtract the “drop” in ounces displayed on the bat (we’ll say drop 5/minus 5 for this example).

Subtract 5 (the “drop”) from the length of the bat (30″), and that gives you the weight of the bat (25 ounces).

What bat do I need, then?

Most people looking for a “-5 BBCOR” are really just wanting a heavier USSSA approved bat to get their ball player ready for BBCOR bats early. If this is the case, we suggest using a wood bat during training and practice. This will help increase bat speed and strength, and they are generally less expensive.

Need a -3 USA Bat? You’re closest match is going to be a minus 5 USA bat. If you play travel ball, you will want a minus 5 ounce USSSA bat (yes, there is a difference).

2019 DeMarini BBCOR Baseball Bats – What’s new for 2019

There are FIVE new bats in the 2019 DeMarini BBCOR Bat lineup! Check them out, and read below the what is new in each model. Custom bats can be ordered now, but won’t ship for another month or so. The bats shown below began shipping August, 2018.

2019 DeMarini BBCOR Bats

2019 DeMarini BBCOR Bats

2019 CF Zen BBCOR Bat $449 – The top of the line, balanced 2019 CF ZEN model gets new Paraflex Plus Composite, a unique and proprietary blend of composite and epoxy that DeMarini says is their best ever. Usually that means better pop and more durability over the previous model year. The 3 Fusion Taper adds to the balance of the bat, while helping kill vibration felt in your hands. 3 Fusion end cap redirects energy back in the barrel of the bat on contact for added distance.

2019 CF Insane BBCOR Bat $449 – The other CF BBCOR bat in the line up uses the same Paraflex Plus Composite (their best ever) as the CF Zen, but the CF Insane has a slight end load for added power through the hitting zone. The CF Insane also has the same 3 Fusion Taper for optimal weight distribution and vibration reduction, as well as the 3 Fusion end cap to direct energy into the barrel of the bat/ball instead of letting it escape out the end via vibration.

2019 Voodoo Balanced vs Voodoo Insane BBCOR  $299 – The Balanced Voodoo is of course, balanced. Meaning less weight at the end cap, making it easier to swing and generate bat speed. The Voodoo Insane is End Loaded, which adds mass and weight toward the end of the bat, requiring more strength to swing the bat, but rewards the hitter with added power. The Voodoo Insane has a larger barrel profile than the Voodoo Balanced because of the ability to have more weight at the end of the bat. Both bats are two piece construction with an aluminum alloy handle and Paraflex Plus Composite (Same as CF Zen and Insane). Both two piece Voodoo bats use the same 3 Fusion connector as the top of the line CF bats, as well as the same 3 Fusion End Cap to help redistribute energy back into the barrel of the bat and into the baseball.

2019 Voodoo One BBCOR Bat $249 – The “One” is an “Ultra Balanced”, 1 piece bat made entirely of DeMarini’s exclusive X14 alloy, a lightweight performance aluminum alloy blend. The Voodoo One gets the 3 Fusion End Cap for energy redistribution to the barrel of the bat, as well as a nice red glossy finish, and premium performance Camo-D bat grip.

USA Bat Standard – Youth BBCOR Bats are coming!

USABat Standard

USA Bat Standard Baseball Bats

First College, next was High School, now at the Pony and Little League levels we will see a Youth BBCOR Bat!

Starting in 2018, to be legal for play in Little League, Pony, Cal Ripken/Babe Ruth, AABC, AAU, Dixie baseball, your bat will need the USABat stamp on it.

USABat Standard baseball bats will go on sale in the Fall of 2017. Major brands like Easton, DeMarini, Louisville Slugger, and Rawlings are already hard at work on these new youth baseball bats with the USABat stamp.

USSSA vs USA Bat Standard

Key USABat Standard Baseball Bat Facts

  • Approved YBBCOR 2 5/8” barrels will be legal for all ages (14 and under) in Little League, Babe Ruth, Cal Ripken, PONY, Dixie, AABC, AAU.
  • The 2 5/8” big barrel lengths will be much shorter than the current 2 5/8” 1.15bpf barrels used in today’s game due to the performance regulations put in place.
  • All current youth baseball bats will continue to be legal in the above mentioned organizations through December 31st, 2017
  • 1.15bpf bats will NOT be grandfathered in for the 2018 season.
  • The goal is to make youth bats perform like a wood bat.
  • There will be no limit to how light a bat can be, which should be helpful to younger players.
  • According to USA Baseball, the governing body that oversaw the research and ratification of the new USABat standard, this change is being made for “integrity of the game”, and not “safety” reasons, as it claims “Youth baseball continues to be one of the safest of all sports”.
  • USSSA, which governs nearly all travel ball teams, is not affected by the change to the USABat Standard, and currently has no plans to change their bats

Long story short, everyone who plays Little League, Pony, and the other organizations mentioned above will need to buy a new bat starting in 2018. These bats will perform like wood bats. Baseballs will likely not be hit as far with these bats, BUT the larger diameter barrel on the baseball bats can and will make the baseball easier to hit for many players.
